John Cox, Tribal Firekeeper and Spiritual Leader, held Fall Equinox Ceremonies at his home in Conway, SC. The sacred fire was lit for Sunrise on Friday, September 25 and burned through Sunset on Sunday, September 27, 2009. Sunrise, Noon, and Sunset Ceremonies were held each day.
Visiting tribes, friends, and members participated in the rites and then joined in a feast of barbecued hash, corn roasted in the shuck, sweet potatoes, salads, peanuts, cornbread, fruit, and other treats. Much of the food was donated by special friends of the tribe, Chief A. J. Randall and his wife Wanda of the Little Horse Creek Tribe. In addition to tribal members, tribal guests and other guests from Georgia to North Carolina participated. Between ceremonies, several marveled at handmade, beaded jewelry and tried their skills in wood carving and gourd crafts.
John and his wife Sandy said the Winter Solstice will also be augmented with crafting and food. Everyone is free to bring whatever foods they choose to share with others. Crafting will focus on dream-catcher construction and on beading. All with a good heart and a positive spirit are invited to attend. The date and times will be announced soon.
